"Then he opened their minds so they could understand the scriptures."
One major hindrance to understanding is closed minds. Many people can sit in the church auditorium during services listening to sermons and yet still goes back unchanged and in imparted as a result of the state of their minds.
Hearing is not what brings understanding, it only offers a man surface knowledge which has no ability to produce fruit but when a man listens to the word with an opened and in distracted mind, he will understand what he had been taught and also fruitful.
That is y the devil always loves to keep the mind of people busy when the word of God is being served. Whenever we go to hear the word, let us open our mind and keep off all distractions and we will go back home being transformed.
