Job1:6, & 2:1 “Now there was a day when the sons of God (Bene Elohim) came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan (Heylel) came also among them”
In few days or week, we will trust the Spirit of grace to show us a bit of the great mystery about the old battle that man and his race had faced. We would consider the following:
⇒ Sons of God (Bene Elohim) as Watchers
⇒ Watchers Before the Beginning “Angels”
⇒ Watchers After the Beginning “Man”
⇒ Watchers of the Last days/ End-time “Men”
Sons of God (Bene-Elohim) as Watchers
Bene-Elohim is the original Hebrew word interpreted as sons of God in the bible while _“Watchers”_ is the name given to certain cadres of angels. It appeared only thrice in the same chapter in the book of Daniel where he was describing his vision of the heavens and the ancient of days. Daniel called the heavenly creature he saw Watcher, which means that name wouldn’t have been a strange one in the history of the Israelite. Daniel as well could have been both spiritually and logically sure that such name fits the personality he was seeing. The function and the authority with which these angelic beings called watcher operated in the visions of Daniel (Dan 4:13-23) speaks volume of their purpose in God’s agenda.
The name does not just relate to them as angels but basically their function. We get the word (noun) ‘Watcher’ from 'watch’ which is a word of function or action word. No doubt these creatures of God were created to watch over certain creations of God, be it planets or kingdom. This sphere of control apportioned to the Watchers was referred to as 'estates in Jude vs 6’_ "And the Angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgement…”
Watchers Before the Beginning “Angels”
Gen1:1-2 “In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form and void and darkness was upon the face of the deep and the spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters…”
In the beginning God created heaven and earth but the statement never revealed how each of them were created. The bone of contention now is that how come Vs2 tells us the earth is now without form while there was no record of a heaven without form? If the earth was made without form then vs 1 of Genesis would have been best stated as _“…in the beginning, God created the earth and a perfect heaven or better still the heaven and an imperfect earth”_. Otherwise, there should be several verses between vs1 and vs2 which we knew nothing about!
Heaven was created civilized, it needed no civilization and the earth as well was created perfectly to suit God’s purpose. But what could have gone wrong between Vs1 and 2 that necessitated that God come back to embark on a restoration work?
The bible is clear about all these, God created the heavens and other planets called the earth and placed high cadres of angels who are Bene-Elohims (sons of God) by nature and called Watchers by assignment. These creatures were required to keep watch over those planets or kingdoms. They were meant to rule, govern and dominate those spheres. They were required to execute God’s purpose and plan over wherever has been apportioned to them. They were meant to enforce God’s will in those places as it is being done in heaven.
Remember there was no man then because there was no need for him yet. So at that time, these creatures called the Watchers particularly owned the earth. This is true as we saw in the new testament how Satan, one of the Watchers and Arch Watcher took Jesus to the cliff of the mountain and showed him the earth, an estate he has once been entrusted with. Satan was actually telling Jesus that all those beautiful place of the earth belonged to him and was ready to give Jesus if he would bow to him... to be continued
Note: There is nothing you are passing through today or nothing you see today whether good or evil, visible or invisible that escaped the knowledge of Yahweh. It all remains in his plans and within his sphere of control. Shalom.
