Ekiti students berates Fayose over unpaid bursary

EKITI STUDENTS BERATES GOVERNOR FAYOSE FOR NON PAYMENT OF BURSARY And SCHOLARSHIP AWARD FOR 3 YEARS:

BEING A REPORT OF THE FEDERATION OF EKITI STATE STUDENTS' UNION NATIONAL SENATE SITTING HELD ON 13TH JANUARY, 2018 AT ODUDUWA HALL, EKITI STATE UNIVERSITY, ADO EKITI.

Preamble:
Federation of Ekiti State Students' Union is the apex students' body saddled with the responsibility of protecting and promoting the interest of all Ekiti Students both at home and diaspora. The Senate body comprises Chapter Presidents of the Union across higher institutions of the country as it is meant to be the legislative arm of Union.

The sitting commenced at exactly 10:10am with the adoption of the Agenda listed as follows:

1. State of the Nation.
2. State of the State
3. State of FESSU

State of the Nation:

The Senate Council commended the efforts of the Federal Government so far with much support for his anti corruption policies which is expected of a sane society. The Senate  lamented the hardship being experienced by the teeming Nigerian students without excluding other Nigerians - Civil servants, public workers, artisans etc.

The Senate also condemned the killings of Nigerians by the Fulani herdsmen which is not disconnected from security of properties and lives, the fuel scarcity and increase in pump price liable of wrecking more havoc on the economy of our country thereby resulting in experience of hardships which are better imagined than experienced.

The Senate demanded from the President Muhammadu Buhari Led Federal Government an immediate action on the security of lives and properties with much emphasis on proactive and corrective measures being put in place to avoid further economy hardship being experienced.

State of the State:

After much deliberations on the floor of the house with appraisals and criticisms from the Senators, the house in unison resolved on the following:

1. Commended the State Government on the free UTME form given to Ekiti State Students.

2. Commended the effort of Ekiti State Governor and Security Agencies on their strict measures on the security of lives and properties in the State and requested for more security measures to prevent attacks of Fulani herdsmen in the State.

3. The Ekiti State workers are parents of Ekiti Students, the hardships experienced by them because of the unpaid salaries has it adverse effects on the State economy and we students, and as such the Senate demanded that the State Government should ensure the payments of the Outstanding salaries of the Workers in the State.

4. The Senate condemns the lackadaisical, lukewarm and unenthusiastic attitude of the State Governor on payment of Bursary/Scholarship Award as it regret the fact that the present State Government has not paid any bursary or scholarship since inception in office. Notable enough is the fact that neighboring states despite the economy meltdown strived to make the payment of Bursary/Scholarship Award - this alone can make us view the Governor Peter Ayodele Fayose as anti students in the implementation of the State Government policies.

In light of this, the Senate demanded that the State Government fasts track the payment of Bursary/Scholarships to Ekiti students as the Screening Committee inaugurated since last year December is yet to release the list of successful applicants not to talk of payment of this Bursary/Scholarship Award. It should be noted that this is the only dividends of democracy that we enjoy despite being major political stakeholders.

5. The Senate also urge our teeming members to be patient on the disbursement of Bursary/Scholarship while the National Leadership work on the success.

State of FESSU

The State of FESSU is the most
paramount of all issues to the Senate Council, there were much deliberations and reactions on the State of the Union, the house resolved on the following:

1. Based on exigencies and the need for an election, *a mandated Congress should be called on/before 19th February, 2018 by the National President* to lift ban and Constitute Electoral body to pave way for electioneering processes which will bring in new  administrators.

NB:
Failure of the President to comply with the Resolution of the House will prompt the Senate Council to call for the Congress.

2. The Senate mandated the National Leadership to persistently remind the State Governor of his promise to put in place an edifice which will serve the purpose of Secretariat and an Aluta Bus which will efficiently serve the Union on mobilization and mobility as at when due.

3. That a well planned and organized Senate Legislative Summit be organized by the Leadership of the Senate  to enhance the Leadership ability of the
Senators.

AOB
