A medical practitioner has been arrested by the Lagos state police
command for the death of a Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in the state.
It was gathered that the Commissioner of Police recently redeployed the
former Igando DPO to the Amuwo Odofin police post.
In a report by Guardian, the DPO was injured last year in his arm
during a fracas with some hoodlums and he was said to been treating the
dislocation in a traditional clinic, but the wound did not heal.
Following the severe pains he was having, some of his friends
advised him to seek orthodox treatment and he was said to have taken the
complaint to his medical doctor friend at Igando. The doctor was
reported to have given him injection, following which, the DPO collapsed
and all efforts to revive him proved abortive as he gave up the ghost.
A senior police officer at the Igando police station where the doctor is being detained said:
“We are investigating to find out if the doctor gave him the right
medication. We also want to find out if the doctor is qualified. The DPO
went to the hospital on his own, it was not as if he was rushed to the
hospital.”
