Maleficence on a nursing student

BEING A STATEMENT OF PRESS BY THE LEADERSHIP OF NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA STUDENT NURSES AND MIDWIVES (NANSNM) ON THIS DAY 26/6/2018.

Protocol,
The National Executive Council of the National Association of Nigerian Student Nurses and Midwives under the captainship of Comrade Ayelabowo  Oluwasina saddled with the sole responsibility of protecting the interest of Nigerian Nursing students at home and in diaspora.

Some weeks ago, the attention of the leadership of this association was called to the maleficence melted on one of our students in College of Nursing and Midwifery, Jalingo, Taraba State which eventually claimed her precious life. After much agitation and consolidation, the necessary stakeholders came to our rescue, leading to the arrest of one of the culprits.

We therefore extend her appreciation to the Taraba State government and the state police command over the apprehension of one of the culprits associated with this catastrophic event that befell one of our members, miss Mercy Victor  who died on account of rape.

In the spirit of oneness and camaraderie, we send our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased. Indeed, it was a great loss to the family and to Nigeria as a whole.

Undeniably, cases of rape and subsequent murder are becoming rampant in our society and it worth attracting maximum punishments in line with the Constitution s of our country. We humbly charge the Nigerian Police Force to speed up further investigative process so as to apprehend the other culprits and prosecute them accordingly.

More so, we do appeal to the state police command to intensify security surveillance and employ adequate security measures around that area so as to ensure maximum protection for our students as similar sardonic acts were reported to have started becoming more often within the area.

It is no more news that the decadence in our security system in Nigeria has reached its peak and as citizens, our safety has gone beyond the pale, whereas, the sole responsibility of every government is to protect life and properties of the citizens but the reverse is the king in our various domains.

Lastly, we want to humble charge the federal government to be alive to their responsibility by ensuring adequate security for Nigeria students.

We shall not stop until our good becomes better and our better transforms into the best.
VIVA ALUTA........

Signed:
Com. Ayelabowo Oluwasina.
