Over the years, many definitions have been attributed to commitment, perhaps, in an attempt to fully reveal its depth and importance as it pertains to personal and cooperative goals. Simply put, commitment is a devotion to a cause or activity. It is the willingness to give your time and energy to a belief system or person. No doubt, a good number of things seek our commitment in the 21st century, they include; Academics, work, belief, relationship, e.t.c. But specifically, as stated in the Eagle academy of leadership we would be considering commitment to a relationship.
It has been revealed by research that one out of three marriages usually end up divorced yearly. In fact, the top ten nations with peak prevalence of divorce are all European countries with the exception of the United states. Clear enough, this suggests that improved standard of living is never a cure to divorce rate. When Interviewed, Baskerville, a leader and an entrepreneur in his bid to proffer reasons for this ugly incident suggested that, commitment is starved in most relationships. Fortunately, a recent study reports that one-third of people would feel more optimistic about life if their partners showed them more commitment. As simple as commitment may seem, many neuropsychiatric hospitals are filled with depressed patients owing to lack of commitment from their partners.
You or I don’t want to end up there right?
Smiles, no one really wants to.
But, how can I test the commitment of my partner to this relationship?
Baskerville added “well, there is no one big reliable test to measure the depth of commitment, but it is in fact measured by the sum of the myriad of little and seemingly insignificant acts where a person demonstrates an attitude of “never giving up, never losing faith, being always hopeful, and enduring through every circumstance”.
Here is what the Book of all books has to say about this subject, which explains why a lot of beautiful relationships ended up in mere dreams, and exposes us to the true test of anyone’s commitment, we deceive ourselves so much by thinking love is enough to keep a relationship, LOVE IS NOT ENOUGH. Haven’t you wondered why people break up, yet they would say, but I love him or I love her, In fact, some with tears would say, I love him but we can’t just live together. Come on! Brace up, love is not enough to keep a relationship. Commitment through knowledge does. Bible says in proverbs chapter sixteen of verse three;
Commit thy works to the LORD, and your plans will be established. Can you please read that again?
Again?
For the last time please?
Hence; I humbly submit:
Any partner who is not truly committed to God cannot be committed to YOU.A commitment to God is therefore supremely the test of a worthwhile commitment.
Enjoy your relationship!
